Noel Johnston
B.Eng (Elec)
DIRECTOR — CHARTERED PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER (CPENG, RPEQ)
Noel Johnston is the Director of Power Edge Engineering and a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng, RPEQ) with 21 years of experience across power quality, distribution and power generation. He has first-hand design experience across brownfield, greenfield and EPC renewable power generation projects up to 52MW, including feasibility studies, interconnections, protection studies, commissioning, and plant operation and maintenance for LV and HV power systems to AS/NZS3000 and AS2067.
Noel's recent experience includes distributor interconnections, Generator Performance Standard testing, power quality assessments and NER compliance. He combines deep technical expertise with strong business acumen, having managed multi-million-dollar project budgets and complex plant engineering strategies.
Beyond the technical work, Noel is known as a steady, safety-focused leader with extensive experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams. He founded Power Edge Engineering with a passion for renewable, sustainable and clean energy, and a commitment to delivering engineering that can be confidently built, commissioned and operated.
Shuli Jiao

SENIOR ELECTRICAL ENGINEER — POWER QUALITY
Shuli Jiao is Power Edge Engineering's Senior Electrical Engineer, specialising in Power Quality, Energy Efficiency and Energy Management Systems. With over 30 years of experience, Shuli brings deep expertise in power system engineering, electrical fault analysis, metering, electrical machines and control systems, and microgrid design.
Shuli's analytical approach and strong technical documentation skills ensure every deliverable meets the rigorous quality and compliance standards our clients rely on, making him a key contributor to Power Edge Engineering's most technically demanding projects
Chris McDonald
DESIGN & DRAFTING CONTRACTOR
Chris McDonald brings more than three decades of design and drafting experience to Power Edge Engineering, with a career spanning industrial, water and energy sectors. His experience includes design of plant equipment, materials handling systems, production layouts and engineering CAD symbols and circuitry, using platforms including AutoCAD, Inventor and SolidWorks.
Before joining Power Edge Engineering, Chris spent almost a decade as State CAD Coordinator for SA Water, delivering major infrastructure projects across South Australia's water and industrial sectors. His depth of drafting experience and meticulous attention to detail supports the delivery of clear, construction-ready engineering drawings.
Balaji Pampukkannu
Electrical Engineer
Balaji is an experienced E&IC Engineer and Designer with more than 14 years of experience across power generation, oil and gas, mining and industrial projects.
His technical strengths include electrical and instrumentation detailed design, load lists, single-line and schematic diagrams, cable and equipment sizing, earthing and lighting design, cable routing, power system studies, PLC and instrumentation schematics, 3D modelling, equipment specifications, procurement support, and construction, testing and commissioning. He is also proficient with engineering tools including ETAP, AutoCAD, SmartPlant 3D, AVEVA E3D, EPLAN and Navisworks.
Michael Welzel

BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT CONSULTANT – PACIFIC
Michael Welzel is Power Edge Engineering's Consultant and Business Development lead for New Zealand and the Pacific Islands, based between New Zealand and the Cook Islands. With more than 40 years of international experience, he specialises in power management, renewable energy and green hydrogen, energy management, power quality, smart metering and industrial IoT.
Michael's recent work spans renewable energy and green hydrogen project development, solar power-monitoring and building automation for commercial clients, and smart-metering and IoT network roll-outs for energy and water applications across the Pacific Islands.
